Remote Controlled Robotic
Arms inside ITDC
S.A.Robotics provided four size-reduction chambers to Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site (RFETS). The project involved the design and fabrication of large-scale equipment and size reducing radiological contaminated equipment for removal to off-site storage.
The project entailed using high precision manufacturing of modularized equipment, hydraulically and electromechanically powered robotic arms. It also used remotely operated grapples, winches, gantry cranes, lift tables, conveyors, video equipment, and hand tooling.
The robotic arms for this project are gantry mounted (overhead) and each has 8 axis of movement with capacities up to 500 lbs. Two of the robotic arms are hydraulically powered and one is electro-mechanically powered. The robotic arms are outfitted with a gripper hand, plasma torch, and interchangeable tool mount. Controls for this project are PLC based and use joystick and pendant controls.
The system effectively sectioned and packaged TRU waste from gloveboxes.
