The DOE Hanford Waste Treatment Plant is the largest ($5 Billion) waste treatment facility in the world. S.A.Robotics is supporting the development of the Low-Activity Waste (LAW) Melter vitrification facility’s melter equipment support handling system. The scope involves the design and fabrication of mechanical handling equipment to maintain the LAW melters, provides import/export activities of the melter consumables and provides support to the equipment located in the LAW melter Gallery.

Assembled LAW Winch Systems

S.A.Robotics’ engineering staff utilized Pro Engineer® to prepare multiple design packages along with Mechanica® and other software required for design analysis. S.A.Robotics engineers were required to provide a verbal defense of all designs while demonstrating strict compliance to all codes and standards including; AWS, DOE Orders, IEEE standards, ANSI, ASME, NEMA and UBC and OSHA. All aspects of the project were conducted in accordance with DOE Order 414.1A Quality Assurance Program requirements. Third party inspection and verification tests were required on all weldments. Bechtel representatives were present for witness and hold points throughout fabrication and assembly. Factory Acceptance Testing occurred at the S.A.Robotics facility in Loveland, CO. This involved the fabrication of mock test equipment and fully functional interface testing. This contract was a firm fixed price contract.
