Glovebox System
S.A.Robotics provided design services to Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. and Los Alamos National Laboratory, primarily in the areas of :
- Electrical controls design and specifications.
- Mechanical design (3-Dimensional Computer Aided Design using Pro/Engineer software) and specifications.
- Vision system design and specifications.
The design was created for the DOE Savannah River Site, to convert the plutonium pits from excess nuclear weapons into plutonium oxide, for ultimate disposition.

Gantry and Manipulator System
The S.A.Robotics design utilized overhead gantry mounted 3- and 5- axis robotic arms and accuracy of 0.005” over large spans (40+ feet). Seven complete robotic systems were designed for this project. The system also utilized a unique sealed axis design keeping contamination out of the robot and a vision system to calibrate position inside the glovebox. The design was modular and could be used in a variety of different gloveboxes. The robot was designed to be repaired and removed using gloveports and bagout ports.
The PDCF is a NQA-1 quality level project performed by S.A.Robotics.
