Miniature remote excavator, Brokk 180
S.A.Robotics’ work with Washington Closure Hanford (WHC) provided engineering services, equipment, and a decommissioning scheme to provide a quick and safe solution to the remote operations required in building 324/327. The execution and delivery of the equipment to WHC provided them with the D&D solution they needed for the breakdown and cleanup of hazardous hotcells.
In building 327, the remote equipment provided WCH with the ability to dismantle ductwork and RLWS piping from both hot cell pedestal areas and from the basement so that further work in the building could be performed. S.A.Robotics’ equipment was able to provide size reduction of resin-filled pipes for packaging and removal, as well as having the capability to remove lead shielding from pipes and cleaning up any other miscellaneous piping, conduits, and other items that may have interfered with access to Zone 1 ducts and the RLWS.
Also, the remote equipment helped with the demolition and dismantlement of the south hotcell in building 324. The equipment helped with the sorting and piling of waste in the hotcell. Then, once all of the debris had been sorted and sized at the lowest position possible, the cell was grouted to allow for its demolition. S.A.Robotics provided WCH with a decommissioning scheme and the equipment to execute and solve their problem of required remote operations.
